Update: April 11, 2001

Sorry for the long delay in updates.

I'm done with the recover process and have bad news for most of you. The user information (your login, name, etc) was saved. Your bookmarks, email, and other data are mostly gone.

I am now working to rebuild the machine and get it ready to put back online. The user information should be intact, the data you had saved will be restored from an old hard-drive that was removed from the database back in May of last year.

I apologize for any inconvenience this is causing you.

NOTE:

For those of you who care, the reason Murl crashed is that we had a series of failures within a very short period of time. First, the drive that handles all the backups dies. A few days later, two of the drives in the RAID 5 array died. I finally flew back into town 4 days after the RAID died to find the co-location room sitting about 90F.

Needless to say, we will be finding a new home for Murl with a little better air conditioner.
