As we work on the Web many of us use bookmarks or
favorites to keep track of where we've been, sites we want to come back to,
favorite sites, or ones we find important or useful.
- Bookmarks - term used by Netscape and Opera.
- Favorites - term used by Internet Explorer
We'll use the term bookmarks.
As we accumulate bookmarks we're likely to want to
- organize them according to a scheme that makes it easy for us to
work with them (not to mention to find the ones we want)
- sort bookmarks
- search
- annotate the basic information, URL and title, that's kept with a
bookmark
- check for duplicates, dead links, relocated links
- be able to move them easily from one computer system to another
- access them regardless of which browser we use
- access them through the Internet
- drag & drop additions
- import, export or synchronize
- export to html, text, rich text (rtf), or portable docuemnt (pdf)
formats.
In this presentation we'll take a look at several tools that let us manage
and work with bookmarks. Some of the tools are used by being resident on the
computer we're using to access the Internet and others are available online.
We'll look at how to acquire, install, and use them. We'll also do a comparative
review of some of these tools.
