These are the cardinal flowers we have planted near our creek. We purchased then from the Virginia Native Plant Society at a sale they held about two years ago in Fredericksburg. I was happy to see they are surviving through more than one season.

Hibiscus in the front garden at 8 AM. I took these pics this morning before it got too hot. The plant has bloomed for several years and puts out very large flowers. The bugs always get to them very early; maybe before they bloom.  They’re really nice.

After going to Earl’s Hardware in Chatham Heights, I was struck with the appearance of two abandoned buildings across the road. Most likely these haven’t been occupied for several years and are part of someone’s plan for tearing down and rebuilding when the the real estate slump improves.
